Oregon Trip 2005 - Oregon Coast - Bandon
![]() |
During the night it rained a lot but in the morning it stopped (about 8:30). So we packed up and headed south to Bandon and the Bullard's Beach State Park. We stopped at several viewpoints and parks along the way, including the Umpqua Lighthouse. It was lit and had a red and clear lens (Fresnel lens) and looked really pretty. The visitor center there was a nice place to visit as well. Afterwards we went into the nearby fishing village at Winchester Bay and bought some fresh oysters for the evening dinner and some locally caught and canned salmon and tuna. Yum, looking forward to dinner tonight! We stopped for lunch at Tugman State Park and then drove on down to Bandon to Bullard's Beach (No 23 on the map) where we set up our trailer and then headed out to see the lighthouse there. While in the lighthouse it started raining quite hard outside. But after while we decided to brave the weather and went out to our truck to return to the trailer. Got a bit wet and had to change to dry clothes at the trailer where we bunkered down for the rest of the day (Monday, Oct. 3) On Tuesday the weather was clear and nice. We took a morning driving tour to some of the more remote Oregon Coastal Parks. Saw some of the best coastal scenery of our entire trip. Took many, many photos and Yoshiko did a lot of sketching. Spectacular scenery! We stopped in the village of Charleston for a bowl of delicious clam chowder and a glass of beer. The afternoon had us back in the town of Bandon, looking around the old downtown area there. Our plans to visit the local cheese factory were thwarted when we learned the business was suddenly permanently closed that very morning. So we went to the town library and checked our email and afterwards to the beach at the edge of town where we were surprised at the beautiful coastline there. Again we took a lot of photos and sketches. |
