Oregon Trip 2005 - Columbia River

As I said previously, we left the Hot Springs at about 8 am and headed for warmer climes on the banks of the Columbia River in southern Washington. We took the scenic Blue Mountain route to the Columbia River (Nos 13, 14 and 15), crossed the bridge at Biggs, OR. (No 16) and found a beautiful campsite in Maryhill State Park on right on the bank of the Columbia River. Had lunch and then took a walk down the road to a fruit and vegetable stand where we bought some fresh garden grown vegetables, and then stopped for wine tasting at a nearby tasting room adjacent to the State Park. A delightful warm afternoon was spent relaxing at camp on the bank of the river. This was the most beautiful campsite we had during our entire trip. The vegetables from the fruit stand were delicious. The tomatoes home grown, the "seedless" watermelon was completely yellow inside. It was my first time to have a yellow watermelon. Next morning, Monday, Sept 26, we headed west along the Columbia River. A quick stop at the vegetable stand for more tomatoes and later we stopped at Washougal, WA at the Pendleton store for some clothes shopping. Steve bought a couple of shirts and Yoshiko bough a nice outfit with a couple of matching tops. |
