COLORADO TRIP - 2001

8/24/01 (Friday) - Glenwood Springs to Breckenridge

We left Glenwood Springs at 9 am and headed for the Tiger Run RV park in Breckenridge.  It was beautiful scenery all along the way.  We had a long steep pull over the Vail Pass, which was over 10,600 feet.  Had to drive in first gear for a long time.  All the truck's gages looked good though so I guess everything worked OK.

Two hours later we reached the RV Park and checked in.  Only $44/night for us.  Nice park, but not really $44 worth.  Nice wide sites and well landscaped.  A lot of Prevosts and other big rigs here.  We are one of the very smallest and cheapest on the lot.  Got set up, had lunch and sent out and collected our email.  Then we were exhausted so took a long nap.

Here is oure site. As you can see it is spacious and nicely landscaped. Nice view of the Rockies, too.

The $50 sites were larger and included personal storage sheds for your "toys," etc. A lot of these sites were occupied by Prevosts, Newalls, and Monacos.

We found a good deal on a used Prevost. Two years old and 22,000 miles for just $699,900. Such a deal!
This looked like a Japanese "Love Hotel" inside or a high-priced hooker's house. Mirrored ceilings and walls, tiny lights contoured around the ceiling, marble tiled floors, large see-through shower, three large screen TVs, etc.

In the evening we went over to Silverthorne for the Alpenglo Chamber Music Festival.  We immediately met my friend, Bill Lightfoot.  He was all dressed up in a tuxedo.  I, at least, was wearing a suit and Yoshiko had a nice dress on.

The performance was quite good.  Excellent musicians.  First piece by Prokofiev, second was a new composition, the third by Shostakovich and the fourth by Brahms.  After the performance we went to a reception at one of the local sponsor's home.  WOW, what a nice home!  Up on the mountainside with a great view.  Large home and a wonderful collection of art.  The owner was kind enough to show us some of his very special treasures in some of the other rooms.

We spoke with some of the musicians, in particular the pianist who was from Tokyo and the clarinetist who was featured in several of the works performed.  The pianist will be performing in Tokyo when we plan to be there in October.  Perhaps we'll have a chance to see and hear her again.  She took our email address and will send us all the details.

We also met the professional photographer who provided the alpenglo photo used to publicize the event and used on the program cover.  His works are featured on many Colorado calendars, post cards, posters, etc.

All in all, it was a very pleasant evening.
